Earlier this year, Liverpool spoke with Manchester City star Josko Gavrdiol over a move to Anfield, according to new reports.

With just a week to go until the Reds open their Premier League campaign against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, there are still issues to address in the transfer window.

A defensive midfielder seems to be the priority for Jurgen Klopp, but a left-sided centre-back is also high on Liverpool’s wanted list.

Levi Colwill, who has now signed a new contract with next week’s opponents, was number one target this summer, alongside Gancalo Inacio and Antonio Silva to name a couple.

One player no longer linked with a move to Anfield, however, is Manchester City’s new signing, Josko Gvardiol.

The Croatian was admired by the Merseyside club earlier on in the year and according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, contacted over a move.

Josko Gvardiol Contact

Despite recently joining Liverpool’s league rivals, Gvardiol as admitted he and his family are fans of the red half of Merseyside.

According to the well-known journalist, the former RB Leipzig defender may have had an opportunity to join his childhood club, a small opportunity at that.

Romano has revealed that Liverpool did make contact with the Bundesliga club back in January of this year, but instead, decided to spend their money elsewhere.

Gvardiol completed his move to the Etihad three days ago, whilst Jurgen Klopp and his scouting team are still looking for a defender.

Is this another player the Reds have massively missed out on due to financial backing?

Transfer Room Verdict

Although, I am not overly fussed in missing out on Gvardiol specifically, it’s the lack of ambition the club has from the top I am concerned when it comes to improving.

Many times we have fallen short of transfers because of money and for a club like Liverpool, it’s simply not good enough.

The Reds need a centre-back this summer and with the Romeo Lavia deal dragging on, again because of money, I feel the club will not address everything they need to.

Liverpool are one injury away from a season collapsing again, that’s the bigger picture of it all and that terrifies me.
