Liverpool are not ready to give up on their pursuit of Romeo Lavia after making a fourth bid for the Southampton midfielder, according to renowned journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Saints dismissed the Reds’ third bid for the 19-year-old which is believed to have been about £46m including add-ons, however, the South Coast side reportedly want £50m.

Liverpool had an initial bid of £34m plus £4m in add-ons turned down last month before a second offer of around £42m was similarly rejected last week.

The Belgium international is attracting interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United, therefore Liverpool would have to act fast to complete the deal.

He remains keen on a switch to Anfield. It is believed that Liverpool’s latest bid would be enough to convince Southampton into selling him this summer.

Lavia was an unused substitute in Southampton’s 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday last Friday in their 2023/24 Championship opener.

He moved to the St Mary’s Stadium last summer from Manchester City and has four years left on his contract, therefore, Russell Martin’s outfit are under no pressure to sell.

Pep Guardiola’s outfit are entitled to 20 percent of any fee received for his services, hence Southampton are firm on their asking price.

Personal terms won’t be an issue as the Reds look to complete the deal before their Premier League opening game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp is keen on reinforcing his midfield with a third signing in that area of the pitch following the exits of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The German has already brought in two midfielders following the arrivals of Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai who joined the Reds from RB Leipzig in July.
