Liverpool’s pursuit of André Trindade has received a significant boost as the midfielder has now been granted permission to leave Fluminense in January.

During the summer, Liverpool had expressed a strong interest in acquiring André’s services, submitting an offer valued at £26m (€30m) for the 22-year-old. However, Fluminense had firmly rejected the offer, showing reluctance to part ways with the Brazil international before the conclusion of their domestic season.

André remains a pivotal figure in the Fluminense squad, and he still has three years left on his existing contract under the guidance of coach Fernando Diniz.

This season, the defensive midfielder has showcased his abilities in 43 appearances, netting one goal. His contributions have been instrumental in Fluminense’s journey to the semi-finals of the Copa Libertadores, where they are set to face Internacional in a two-legged encounter.

“There is an agreement between us, with the player and representative, that he would stay until the end of the year and they comply fully and with the utmost tranquillity,” Fluminense’s president Mario Bittencourt explained on ESPN, via O Globo.

“What they have done is their work as a representative of the athlete. All the polling that arrives, they communicate to Fluminense.

“Saying this first hand, we didn’t receive a proposal for him, only surveys for Andre. We chose not to sell him because we believed that we would reach the final stages of the Libertadores. It was a decision sporting criteria.

“In the case of Liverpool, I go even further. Liverpool’s executive director contacted me directly. And I replied to him, ‘My friend, I don’t sell players now and I don’t deliver now’.

“‘If you want to buy now to take in January we can start talking, or if you want to wait until December and we talk in December.”
