With Liverpool’s own Trent Alexander-Arnold departing Merseyside confirmed by Alex Crook of talkSPORT, scouting a replacement may be Richard Hughes’s most important job.
Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen is being noted as one option, albeit an ‘outside the box’ option, as he is more of a traditional wingback/winger than a fullback.
According to Caught Offside, a former squad player of Arne Slot is also in contention to be the Scouser’s replacement.

Givario Read has brought the spotlight upon himself during his stellar performances in the Eredivisie this season with both Liverpool and Barcelona in competition to sign the 18-year-old. Acquired by Feyenoord on a free transfer in July 2023, and then promoted to the senior side a year later, the young Dutchman has impressed massively this season. In twenty-six appearances this season he has amassed eight goal contributions.
The most burning question, however, is how Givairo matches with Trent, profile-wise. When reviewing the data on DataMB, you can see they are quite similar players, outside of the glaring difference in progressive passes being made with Alexander-Arnold in the 100th percentile. Quite literally nobody is better than him.

However, Arne Slot values a high percentage win rate when it comes to duelling, and the young Feyenoord defender has that in spades. While the switch from Trent to Givairo may hinder the progressive part of the set-up, it will make the squad much more sound on the defensive side of the ball. Thankfully Liverpool can accomodate more progressive aspects of the midfield with both Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis MacAllister being progressive machines
Similar to the Andrew Robertson transfer in the early years of the Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool, could this ‘outside of the box’ fullback acquisition be the catalyst for a similar developmental path for Givairo?
Feyenoord are in a strong position to bargain for a higher transfer fee that what was paid for Robertson, with the rumoured asking price of between €25-30million for the Dutch right-back.
