Goncalo Inacio has signed a new contract at Sporting CP amid links to Liverpool this summer.
The Reds had been rumoured to be targetting the 21-year-old with Jurgen Klopp reported to be searching for a left sided central defender.
The possibility of that move taking place now seems to be a remote one with the Portuguese having agreed a new contract until 2027 with the Primeira Liga club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Sporting and Inacio have also agreed a new release clause of €60million as part of the terms of the new deal.
It remains to be seen whether the Anfield hierarchy continue their search for a defender before the window closes.
Much of the focus has been on midfield reinforcements with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai added to the ranks.
There was also a shock on Wednesday with the news that Liverpool had agreed a deal with Stuttgart for Japanese captain Wataru Endo.
The 30-year-old is capable of operating in midfield or in defence which could mean that there is no need to chase a defender this summer.
