What a match! European nights at Anfield rarely disappoint and this game certainly didn’t. The energy, the atmosphere, the football.
Everything in this match was exactly why Anfield is the place to be in this competition. Just when it looked like Liverpool were going to fire themselves to am early win, AC Milan stunned the home crowd with 2 quick goals just before half-time to take the lead going into the break.
History repeated itself with Liverpool coming back in the second half to claim the victory
Although a few players had a fantastic game, one player stood out for me. Jordan Henderson. Liverpool played high tempo football and shut down the opposition at every opportunity.
The captain was the one who set this tone. As soon as he had the ball, he was quick to get it away to another Liverpool player.
Every time we didn’t have the ball, Henderson was the first man to be in the faces of the Milan players. For a circuit to work, it needs a power source. Henderson was that power source last night for the reds.
Henderson was already in my thoughts for man of the match but when he hit that half volley into the bottom corner to win the match, he just put the flag on the sandcastle. He gave me Gerrard against Olympiakos vibes.
When we needed someone to step up and be counted, our captain pounced onto a loose ball and smashed it into Anfield Road net.
Jordan Henderson capped a wonderful performance as he led his mighty reds to a good early 3 points in the group stage.
