Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes Jurgen Klopp’s team would have come away from the match with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend with all three points had Luis Diaz’s controversial offside goal not have been disallowed.

Emile Heskey was speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League betting & odds.

Despite being down to 10 men, it looked like Liverpool had taken the lead when Diaz brilliantly finished Mohamed Salah’s clever through ball. VAR then seemed to backup the decision made by the on field officials however suggesting that the Colombian was offside.

Further replays showed that Diaz was indeed onside and the PGMOL issued a statement after the game acknowledging the error.

Spurs went on to snatch a 96th minute winner and take all three points but the story continues to dominate the headlines days later due to the controversy involved.

Heskey believes that had the goal have been given, it’s likely that Liverpool would have gone on to take all three points.

Liverpool Would Have Beaten Spurs If Diaz Goal Counted

‘We’ll never know what would’ve happened if the Diaz goal had counted. You’d like to think that Liverpool would see the game out, but it’s difficult to say what would or could have happened.’

‘Liverpool are a very positive team and when their tails are up, they go for the kill. The goal was onside, and things like that take the wind out of your sails. I think Liverpool would’ve been deadly and finished Spurs off.’

The Reds got back down to business on Thursday with a 2-0 victory over Union Saint-Gilloise in the UEFA Europa League. All focus will now be on their visit to the AMEX on Sunday to face Brighton in the final game before the international break.
