Manchester United are set to battle it out with Newcastle United over the signing of a major prospect this summer. United have been linked to the signing of AS Monaco’s Axel Disasi for a number of months. The player is seen as the clubs defensive second choice after missing out on Kim Min-Jae of Napoli.

Disasi was named by a number of sources as the clubs second choice to the South Korean with a pursuit of the young Frenchman now a lot more likely than previously, as reported many times here on The Transfer Room. Erik Ten Hag is said to have approved the signing of the player a number of weeks ago however, United are yet to start any talks with Monaco over the signing.

A new report from journalist Fabrizio Romano states that United and Newcastle are continuing to explore a move for the player with Newcastle expected to approach Monaco soon.

Newcastle and Manchester United are both exploring Disasi deal, no bids yet

Newcastle approached player side this week, expected to make contact with Monaco. Ten Hag approved Disasi — talks for weeks on player side but still waiting for approach with Monaco. More to follow.

It seems unlikely that United would push for a move to sign Disasi this summer and could turn their attention to signing a striker and another midfielder before even pursuing a move for a centre back or other defensive reinforcements.
