In a fanbase as reactionary as Manchester United’s social media contingent seems to be, writing Mason Mount off after just two games seems a bit overzealous. Even for their standards.

Mount hasn’t set the world alight in his first two games, but it’s been just that. Two games. Two 90 minute matches. 45 of those he was really positive in the first-half against Tottenham, and the other portion of those minutes he’s been apart of a torrid Manchester United side.

The former Chelsea man is an easy target. The number seven weighs heavy on the shoulders of a United player, but he’s one of the only players on the pitch that has been worthy to wear it over these first two games.

Mount’s counter pressing has been a huge highlight for United despite the poor first two games they’ve played. His tenacity and ability to win the ball high up has led to United getting important turnovers in key areas, the problem is, they can’t finish.

United are not having trouble creating chances. Quite the contrary to be honest. In the Premier League so far the Red’s have created 6 big chances, scoring just one. Brighton lead the league in big chances created with 9, they’ve scored eight goals so far in the league.

The midfield has struggled at times in the last two games but they are a new midfield. Teething problems are expected, but they do need to be altered if it is to be successful going forward.

If the game is watched back yesterday, Mount was centric to every decent chance United had in the first-half. People only see what they want to see in regards to players these days, they forget to acknowledge what is.
