French Champions Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Spanish manager Luis Enrique is the new manager of the club ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
PSG terminated the contract of Christophe Galtier at the end of last season even though he had won the title with the club being the first ever French side to be top of Ligue 1 from the first matchday until the last.
However due to a disappointing effort in the Champions League and almost falling into a title battle with RC Lens, who in the end only finished one point behind them, the club decided another manager instead of Galtier is the best way forward for the team.
Enrique was one of the most sought after managers in Europe after he was dismissed as the Spain national coach after the disappointing World Cup campaign which ended with the Spanish getting knocked out by Morocco.
However the success he had with Barcelona for three years in 2014 to 2017 as he won a remarkable treble in his first season at the club so he has shown his qualities as manager at arguably the biggest club on the planet with arguably the best player to ever play- Lionel Messi.
On joining the French club Enrique said: “I’m delighted to be joining Paris in order to enjoy a new experience.
“It’s so exciting to meet new people, to live in this city, to learn a new language and, above all, to manage PSG.”
PSG have a busy couple of months ahead as the future of key players Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are up in the air.
