Manchester United have announced the transfer of Fenerbache star Altay Bayındır as their newest signing for the goalkeeper position.

The exit of Dean Henderson to Crystal Palace was confirmed on Thursday night and it seems that both the cash received from the sale and the freeing up of a spot at goalkeeper has paved the way for this signing.

United bought Andre Onana, who has had a good start as the club’s shot-stopper since joining but does need a suitable backup, especially for when he leaves Manchester for the African Cup Of Nations in January of next year.

And it looks like that will be Bayındır. The Turkish professional will be the first of his nation to join The Red Devils as a player. The 25-year-old made 145 appearances for Fenerbache, making 44 clean sheets in the process.

He said to club media: “It is a huge honour to join Manchester United and become the first Turkish player to represent this incredible club. I have a passion for success, and I will give everything to help this special group of players to achieve our ambitions.”

Director of Football John Murtough gave some context and the train of thought behind the signing: “Altay is a great addition to our team and adds quality to our already strong group of experienced goalkeepers.

Having consistently delivered top performances in a renowned European league, he has the qualities needed to help us achieve our ambitions in all competitions.”
