Romeo Lavia has become a bigger target for Chelsea in the last 12 hours due to their decision to pull out of the Manuel Ugarte deal, and they are expected to try and push to get a deal done soon.

Lavia tops the list of midfielders Chelsea want alongside Moises Caicedo, and with the club expected to sign two midfielders this summer both players could very well be signed.

Southampton are resigned to losing Lavia this summer.

As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, Chelsea are now the most likely destination for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer ahead of Liverpool.

Liverpool have an interest in Lavia and remain in the race to sign the Belgian but Chelsea are the more likely of the two clubs to win the race at this moment in time.

Chelsea always had an advantage when it comes to Lavia due to the players relationship with the clubs new technical director Joe Shields. Shields was a huge factor behind Lavia signing for Southampton from Manchester City.

Southampton dropping to the Premier League means they are now increasingly unlikely to keep hold of Lavia this summer. A fee of £40million could be enough to win the race for the midfielder.

Liverpool are in the very final stages of completing a deal for Alexis Mac Allister and will then turn their attention to their other targets, with Lavia being one of those. Nothing has been agreed as of yet, but Chelsea lead the race.
