Chelsea are now closing in on a deal for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, thus beating Liverpool to the player in the process.
Liverpool have been trying all day for Lavia as they awaited news of the Moises Caicedo deal, but it now looks like Chelsea are going to beat them to the signing of the Belgian midfielder.
The deal could reach a total of £55million including add-ons.
As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, Chelsea are now close to agreeing a deal with Liverpool target Romeo Lavia for £52million+£3million in add-ons.
Chelsea have been confident of signing Lavia for a number of hours but Liverpool wanted to try until the end. Southampton always wanted £50million or above, and will now get that with this deal.
Liverpool are now set to miss out on Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo to the same club. Chelsea are expected to break the British transfer record with a bid over £110million tomorrow for Caicedo.
The feeling is that Liverpool will move on swiftly and try and find another opportunity in the market before the window closes.
