Liverpool want to make Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo their record signing this transfer window according to Sky Sports.
The Reds have been targeting Romeo Lavia all summer but have now seemingly turned their attention to Caicedo.
Southampton valued Lavia at £50 million but Liverpool didn’t agree with that stance and had three bids turned down so are now looking at hijacking Chelsea’s main target.
The Ecuadorian international would likely cost triple figures but Liverpool are happy to pay that much with Caiceido’s preference set to be key in any deal.
It has been very clear that Liverpool have needed a defensive midfielder even before they sold Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.
So bringing Caicedo, one of the best young midfielder on the planet, would be a very important deal for the club if they can pull it off.
Chelsea are still the favourites so it will be about if Liverpool can convince the player and his agent in negotiations about joining up with Jurgen Klopp.
Brighton, who have been stubborn with Chelsea throughout the summer, want the deal sorted by the end of tonight.
Liverpool’s relationship with Brighton is positive due to Adam Lallana, James Milner and Alexis Mac Allister so they could have an advantage when in negotiations with the club.
The first game of the season is on the horizon with Chelsea welcoming Liverpool to Stamford Bridge and at the moment there is an equal chance that Caicedo could be with the home side or the away side.
