Liverpool are getting closer to a deal for Torino defender Perr Schuurs according to a report in Italy.

The Anfield rebuild is in full swing after the signings of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. Romeo Lavia of Southampton remains a target but the club may wait to see if Jordan Henderson departs before making a move.

Whilst the focus so far has been on midfield reinforcements, Jurgen Klopp is also expected to be in the market for a defender this summer.

According to Tuttosport (via Paisley Gates), the Anfield hierarchy have increased their offer for Torino defender Schuurs after failing with an initial bid of £25.7million.

The Italian outlet claims that the Serie A club are holding out for their £34million asking price but a move to England is ‘ever closer’ with the Dutch under-21 international preferring a move to Liverpool despite interest from Crystal Palace and West Ham United,

Schuurs impressed in front of Klopp in the Champions League for Ajax at Anfield in 2020. This is also a rumour that has been circulating for some time so it is possible there is interest from Liverpool in the 23-year-old.

A left-sided central defender appears to be the priority for Reds chiefs this summer however so a move for Schuurs as well could be dependent on outgoings.
