Liverpool have finally made their first move for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia according to Fabrizio Romano.
Lavia has been viewed as one of Liverpool’s top targets for the midfield rebuild for some time and now they are ready to make an offer for the 19-year-old.
The rumours have been going on for several weeks however Fabinho’s move to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad has slowed the potential deal down.
That was because seemingly Liverpool’s plan was to have Lavia as the understudy to Fabinho for the following campaign.
Whether Liverpool now go and sign another experienced defensive midfielder to come in alongside Lavia remains to be seen.
Talks between the player and club have been ongoing for around a month now so personal terms should not be an issue as long as a fee can be agreed.
Jason Wilcox is leading talks for Southampton as they are adamant on a package deal worth £50M which could be done.
Liverpool’s opening offer is set to be around £35 million so with add-ons it may not take too long for both parties to be happy.
