Liverpool have reportedly held talks for Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure as they continue their search for defensive midfielder.
The Reds have strengthened their midfield by bringing in Japanese captain Wataru Endo however they still want some more players in that position.
They have lost Fabinho and Jordan Henderson this summer who were the two players who would have been the choices to play in the deeper midfield role.
So therefore they do ideally need to bring another one in as well as Endo who made his Liverpool debut in the victory over Bournemouth.
Liverpool’s main target was Southampton’s Romeo Lavia but they had three bids rejected for him before they turned their attention to Moises Caicedo.
A fee was agreed with Brighton for Caicedo however the Ecuadorian international only wanted to join Chelsea and in the end he for a Premier League record fee.
After that transfer saga Liverpool attempted to revive their interest in Lavia but the Belgium youngster decided to also join Chelsea.
So Liverpool are still after a big money midfielder who will make the defensive midfield role their own for years to come and it seems that they have identified Doucoure as their main target.
We will have to see over the coming days how much the talks develop with Liverpool’s next game a tough test away to Newcastle United.
