Liverpool have joined the race to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo according to a report.
Jurgen Klopp is in desperate need of midfield reinforcements after unexpectedly losing skipper Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi clubs.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai had been brought in earlier this summer to ease the blow of losing a number of senior players at the end of last season but further reconstruction work is now needed at Anfield.
Liverpool have reportedly seen two bids turned down for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia. They have also been linked with a move for Fluminense’s Andre Trindade.
According to Football Insider, however, sources have told them that the Reds have now joined the race for Caicedo. The Ecuadorian had been expected to sign for Chelsea this summer but the two clubs have so far failed to agree on a deal with the Seagulls seeking £100million.
The outlet claims that they have learnt that the Anfield hierarchy have now been in contact with chiefs at the Amex to register their interest in the 21-year-old.
Earlier on Wednesday, Andy Naylor of The Athletic had revealed that an unnamed club had made an offer that surpassed Chelsea’s £80million bid for Caicedo although it does not confirm that offer came from Liverpool.
