Liverpool appear unlikely to make a move for Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis this summer according to a report.
The acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai early in the transfer window provided Reds supporters with a much-needed boost after a disappointing season.
Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have been rocked however over the last week with reports suggesting that both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho could move to Saudi.
Skipper Henderson has reportedly agreed personal terms with Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq although there is still no agreement between the two clubs over the transfer.
Fabinho appears closer to a move however after a bid of £40million from Al-Ittihad meant he was left behind for Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Germany.
A whole host of names continue to be linked with a move to Anfield with Romeo Lavia of Southampton rumoured to be close to the top of the wanted list.
According to David Lynch (for This Is Anfield), however, rumours of a move for Portugal midfielder Luis may be wide of the mark.
The football journalist claims that despite Liverpool’s admiration for the player and having scouted him over recent years, sources have played down the chances of them making a move for him this summer.
The Transfer Room’s Verdict On Liverpool Links To Florentino Luis
The Anfield hierarchy have swooped for players in the past after denying interest initially. Despite links to the Portuguese being played down, he is a player that could fill the void left by Fabinho so a transfer cannot be ruled out completely.
As always, much will depend on the price at which Benfica are willing to sell, with the player reported to have a staggering release clause of £103million.
