Wolfsburg centre back Micky Van De Ven is close to moving to Tottenham Hotspur according to Fabrizio Romano which is a blow to Liverpool as he was linked with a transfer to the Reds.
The 22-year-old was competing in the Under 21 European Championships with Holland who disappointingly went out in the group stage hence why a move has taken some time to develop.
However now though Spurs are in advanced talks for Micky Van De Ven with an agreement between them and the Bundesliga club close with positive negotiations well under way.
Liverpool had been linked with Van De Ven due to his speed and the fact he is left footed as they are looking for someone to full the left centre back role in their new look system.
So the rumours made sense but they died down in recent weeks and Tottenham jumped ahead of Liverpool in the queue with Ange Postecoglou getting busy in his first season at the North London club.
Jurgen Klopp still wants another defender and it would appear that Chelsea’s Levi Colwill is the most desired player for that position but Chelsea have insisted that he is not for sale.
If he were to leave Chelsea he would need to put in a transfer request and Liverpool would have to fork out a sum of at least £60 million hence why the links to Van De Ven were logical.
However Spurs, who haven’t got any European football, appear to have won the race for Van De Ven with it looking likely that Liverpool have their eye on someone else whether it be Colwill or another young central defender.
