Manchester United are considering making a move for AS Roma defender Leonardo Spinazzola, according to a report.

The Red Devils are yet to add to their defence this season after making additions everywhere else on the pitch.

It did look unlikely that they would at all with Harry Maguire looking more inclined to stay after his move to West Ham breaking down. However, recent events have forced United’s hand.

The club have an injury crisis of sorts at the moment and the position affected more than any other has been left-back. Backup Tyrell Malacia was injured before pre-season even started and Luke Shaw picked up a muscle injury in training before the league clash with Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Diogo Dalot filled in the role in that match but, as a right-back, he is not an ideal fit if Shaw and Malacia are going to be out for an extended period of time.

So Erik Ten Hag has turned to the transfer market for options on a short-term basis. Players such as Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Barcelona’s Marcos Alonso have been linked but a report from Monday night has brought a new name up.

Italy-based journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (Via UtdPlug) has said United have enquired about Spinazzola, currently playing for Jose Mourinho’s Roma side in Serie A.

The 30-year-old has played 117 games for Roma in all competitions, scoring six goals and making 17 assists from left-back and left midfield.

The right-footer would add more of an attacking option in the full-back position.
