Liverpool were always going to have a serious midfield rebuild this summer after they lost Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner at the end of the campaign.
As well as this last season was a poor one for Liverpool so they were always going to reinvest however the imminent departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have forced Liverpool’s hand even more.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been brought in whilst Romeo Lavia has been strongly linked to join that duo in a new look midfield for the Reds.
One midfielder who has been continuously linked to Liverpool is Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti even though he is 30-years-old.
According to a report Verratti is not in PSG manager Luis Enrique’s plans for the upcoming season so he is free to leave for an appropriate fee.
At first his representatives got in touch with Real Madrid and the Italian international was excited about reuniting with Carlo Ancelotti.
However a deal to join Los Blancos was a non-starter which allegedly is not the case for Liverpool.
Liverpool supposedly have him on their list of priorities and he is entirely to Jurgen Klopp’s liking.
Verratti has given the ok for a move to go ahead which did not take him long and it is now up to the clubs to agree a fee.
LFCTR Verdict
Even though the links are not going away it would seem to be one of the strangest deals under Klopp given Verratti’s age, injury history and inevitable high wages. Liverpool will want an experienced replacement for Fabinho but Verratti is a completely different player so not what is needed.
