Napoli have had an offer rejected for Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga according to relaible journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Spanish youngster is coming off the back of an impressive season in La Liga hence why the Serie A Champions want to snatch him up.
Liverpool amongst other top sides in Europe were showing interest at the start of the window but that died down when Veiga didn’t play much in the Under 21 European Championship.
However a recent report suggested that the Reds were still interested in him so a bid from Napoli could be a blow to Liverpool.
Their offer amounted to 30 million euros but the bid was instantly rejected as the release clause that Veiga has is 40 million euros.
Napoli are expected to come back and meet the asking price for Veiga as they want him at the club as they look to defend their title.
Liverpool’s priorities at the moment are in a different area of the midfield though so it is very unlikely that they will rival Napoli with a bid of their own.
The signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for the attacking midfield roles have meant that the need for someone like Veiga is not there anymore.
Liverpool’s focus remains on Romeo Lavia even though they have had a third bid rejected for the Belgium youngster.
