Liverpool are still in the market for a defensive midfielder due to the fact that Fabinho and Jordan Henderson are on the verge of leaving the club.

Before that was the case they were interested in signing Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia and that is still the case.

However the stumbling block for Liverpool is that they are unwilling to pay £50 million for a 19-year-old who has only played 29 games in the Premier League even if he does have huge potential.

Lavia though is reportedly watching the situation from afar and is on alert waiting for a call from his agent when a deal is possibly in the works.

Chelsea and Arsenal do hold an interest however a move appears unlikely as they both don’t see Lavia as a priority but Liverpool do.

Southampton are unwilling to budge on their valuation of £50 million but due to the fact they will have to sell some of their players time is on Liverpool’s side.

Their manager Russel Martin admitted that a few players will still leave the club due to the size of the squad and Lavia is one of the favourites to move on.

Therefore the hope for Liverpool will be that they can negotiate a cheaper deal.

The Reds originally wanted Lavia alongside Fabinho in their squad so they may still make a move for another midfielder as well as the Belgium.
