Liverpool have had another bid rejected for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia according to Melissa Reddy.
The Reds have made Lavia their priority this transfer window but have found negotiations difficult with Southampton.
Those negotiations haven’t seemed to get any easier as after two bids already being rejected another offer worth £46 million has been rebuffed.
Liverpool as it stands are heading into their opening game of the season against Chelsea without a recognised defensive midfielder.
Even if Lavia was signed in time for that game though it would have been unlikely that the 19-year-old would have been thrown straight in.
The Saints started their new season with a win over Sheffield Wednesday with Lavia staying on the bench which hinted that he may be on his way out.
Another rejected offer though has proved that Southampton won’t be bullied over prices for their star players as they have also not moved their valuation of James Ward-Prowse with West Ham after him.
Whether Liverpool will go back in for Lavia for a fourth time remains to be seen and if they do it appears that they will have to pay the whole £50 million without add-ons otherwise they are not getting their man.
Curtis Jones has been used as the defensive midfielder in pre-season and he is expected to start in the role against Chelsea.
Liverpool’s other option at the club is youngster Stefan Bajcetic who hasn’t featured so far this pre-seasons due to injury but he is back in training.
