Matej Kovar was instrumental today for Manchester United as they won 1-0 against Lyon in Edinburgh, but he could be on his way out of the club. The goalkeeper won the league with Sparta Prague last season, and they remain interested in signing him.

Kovar played the full game which was a surprise, but it may have been for Erik ten Hag to fully assess him before a decision is made. United are interested in Zion Suzuki from Urawa Red’s in Japan, and he could be the replacement for Kovar.

United could net a decent fee for Kovar if they sold him, but he is perhaps a player they should consider keeping.

Sparta Prague Want Matej Kovar:

Sparta Prague’s sporting director Tomas Rosicky spoke about the situation today, stating that it did not matter that Kovar was playing in the friendly for United.

“The fact that Matěj Kovář is playing today means nothing. We are still in contact with Manchester United, but we cannot wait forever. If Matěj’s arrival does not happen, others will come.”

Tomas Rosicky on Matej Kovar.

Kovar was a massive player for Sparta last season, winning the most clean sheets in the entire league as they marched to a league title. The goalkeeper has impressed in pre-season for United, and perhaps gave Erik ten Hag something to think about.

Andre Onana

Andre Onana is at Carrington right now to undergo his medical, and Kovar will have to happy with being number 2 to the new signing. That will be something the player himself will have to decide.

Zion Suzuki is a target for United in a £5million deal. Personal terms will not be a problem but United are yet to make a bid for the player as of yet. Kovar’s situation is likely to have something to do with that.

Sparta want Kovar, but no final decision on his future is ready right now.
