Tottenham Hotspur are “Open” to selling Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Manchester United, according to a report on Tuesday morning.
United have already added midfielder Mason Mount from Chelsea to their team this summer but the midfield has struggled nonetheless, often looking far too open and easy to get past. This is despite the presence of defensive-minded, five-time Champions League winner Casemiro on the pitch.
It had seemed that Erik Ten Hag wanted to use two attack-minded midfielders next to the Brazilian this season but it may be more difficult than he expected.
The Red Devils have already been linked to Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat to give Casemiro a hand but little time remains in the transfer window, which closes on September 1st.
Hojbjerg has been the name as the focus of some rumours since Monday and one report by Sky Sports has said Spurs would consider letting the Denmark international go if a suitable offer arrives.
According to the report, United have already made initial contacts with Tottenham about a deal.
Similar to many of Ten Hag’s transfer targets, the player has played under the coach before at Bayern Munich 2. The 28-year-old has made 147 appearances for Tottenham since joining under Jose Mourinho.
He has only played two of his team’s three games so far this season, coming off the bench in the wins over Bournemouth and United.
