Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of a deal to sign Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven.
That’s according to Alfredo Pedulla who claims that the North London club are closing in on the transfer of the Dutch under-21 international.
Van de Ven had been heavily linked with Liverpool earlier in the transfer window with the Reds reported to be in the market for a left-sided centre-back.
Those rumours were fuelled further by the fact that Jorg Schmadtke had taken up the role of Sporting Director at Anfield, and had signed the 22-year-old for his former club, Wolfsburg.
After Van de Ven had appeared at the Under-21 European championships, however, links to Liverpool disappeared with Tottenham emerging as the leading candidates to sign him.
It appears that a deal is now close with Pedulla suggesting the transfer will be worth €50million.
Micky van de Ven – The Transfer Room Verdict
Assuming the price is €50million, that seems excessive for Van de Ven, despite his obvious potential.
Liverpool are still hugely in need of a central defender however so it appears they may have their sights on other targets.
