Liverpool are trying to close a £45million deal for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia amid interest from Chelsea.
The Reds had an initial bid rejected on Tuesday with the Saints hierarchy insisting on their asking price of £50million.
Lavia even played 45 minutes for Southampton in their friendly against Bournemouth yesterday evening with no deal having been agreed beforehand.
According to Sacha Tavolieri however, Liverpool are hurrying to close out a £45million deal for the talented 19-year-old.
The journalist also confirms the earlier report from Fabrizio Romano that Chelsea are still interested in the player and still pushing through director of recruitment, Joe Shields.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to lose both skipper Jordan Henderson and Fabinho over the coming days as they finalise their moves to Saudi.
It is no surprise therefore to see Reds chiefs trying to rush through a deal for Lavia ahead of Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Singapore which departs on Thursday.
If the deal for the Belgian international is completed, he will be Liverpool’s third summer signing after the acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
