Liverpool are in ‘direct contact’ with midfielder Romeo Lavia and Southampton over a potential transfer this summer according to Fabrizio Romano.
Jurgen Klopp’s rebuild now appears to be in full swing after Liverpool announced the signing of Hungary captain Dominic Szobozslai on Sunday. The 22-year-old joins Argentine World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister at Anfield as the German looks to reshape his midfield ahead of the new season.
With further incomings expected, transfer specialist Romano claims that Liverpool are very much in the race to sign Belgian Lavia.
He suggests that the Reds have made ‘direct contact’ with the player and Southampton, with the Saints having been previously rumoured to want a fee of around £50million for the talented youngster.
The Transfer Room Verdict On Romeo Lavia Links To Liverpool
The addition of a player like Lavia would provide Liverpool with an option in the number six role for the present and the future. There is no denying that Fabinho suffered a huge drop off in form last season so a player coming in with Premier League experience would provide immediate much-needed competition for the Brazilian.
If Lavia does become Liverpool’s third summer signing, it will be interesting to see if that puts an end to the interest in Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield over recent weeks.
