The Saudi Pro League (SPL) remains optimistic that Mohamed Salah is still considering a move to Saudi Arabia this summer, despite reports suggesting little chance of the Liverpool forward joining Al-Hilal ahead of the Club World Cup, according to The Telegraph.

While Salah has yet to agree on a deal regarding his future, the SPL is holding out hope that he could make the switch when his current contract with Liverpool expires on June 30.

There is an offer on the table for Salah to extend his eight-year stay at Anfield, but communication between the player and the SPL remains open.

The Telegraph claims that Salah “remains interested” in the Saudi league, though he has prioritised hearing Liverpool’s offer before making a final decision. The report also stated that a deal could be reached this summer.

There had been optimism that, with FIFA introducing an “exceptional” transfer window from June 1 to June 10, which has since been adopted by the Premier League, Al-Hilal could finalise a deal in time for Salah to participate in the Club World Cup in the United States starting June 14.

However, this now seems unlikely, regardless of Salah’s ultimate choice.

Al-Hilal see the tournament as an opportunity to promote the Saudi league and strengthen their squad following Neymar’s departure.

With Salah regarded as one of the highest-profile Muslim footballers globally, the club views him as the ideal addition to enhance their appeal.

Liverpool, for their part, rejected a £150million bid from Saudi club Al-Ittihad in 2023, with Salah remaining a key figure for the Reds.

As one of the most successful players in the Premier League, Salah is also driven by the desire to break records, which could influence his decision to remain at Anfield.

With his remarkable physical condition, Salah could likely continue performing at the highest level for several more seasons.

The Egyptian forward has been in outstanding form this season, scoring 27 Premier League goals with nine games remaining – his best return since his debut campaign.
