Thiago Alcantara will not be in the Liverpool squad that faces Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.
The 32-year-old has been missing since before the end of last season after undergoing surgery on an injured hip.
Thiago Injury Setback
He recently returned to team training but Klopp confirmed in his press conference (via Liverpoolfc.com) ahead of the match with the Villains that the Spanish international has suffered a setback in his recovery.
“Thiago had a little setback. [He] started training with the team and then had a little setback, so we have to slow down there a little bit.
“It’s not cool for him, it’s not cool for us but it’s how it is. Thiago will use the international break for that then obviously to be up to speed, I’m pretty sure that should be hopefully enough for him then.”
Thiago will be joined on the sidelines by Ibrahima Konate who is still nursing a muscle injury but Curtis Jones is fit to return.
