It was not anticipated at the start of the summer that Fabinho would be one of the players to leave Liverpool.

Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had all departed at the end of last season when their contracts expired.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai had been brought in to compensate for their loss but in a few crazy days in July, it became clear that Jurgen Klopp would be losing both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson as well.

Klopp’s captain went on to complete a transfer to Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq and the offer from Al-Ittihad of £40million for the Brazilian was too good to turn down.

Three Fabinho Replacements Identified

As the Anfield hierarchy searched for possible replacements for the 29-year-old, according to The Athletic, three names were ‘high up on the list’.

For two of those names, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, the transfer sagas of the summer unfolded with Chelsea beating Liverpool to both players.

The third name on the list and identified by Liverpool’s data department according to the outlet was Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara.

French international Kamara excelled under Unai Emery in his first season at Villa Park proving to be an astute signing from Marseille on a free transfer the previous summer.

Transfermarkt.co.uk suggest Kamara’s market value is currently €30million but in reality at this stage of the transfer window, it is likely to take a much more significant offer for Villa chiefs to even consider a transfer.

As of yet, there have also been no signs that the Anfield hierarchy will target the 23-year-old however with more substantial links to Andre Trindade and Ryan Gravenberch.

Whilst Wataru Endo has gone some way to helping solve the issue of losing Fabinho, there is still an expectation that another player will be brought in before the window closes to bolster Klopp’s squad further.

The problem for those involved however is time is now not on their side.
