Liverpool fans are bracing themselves for a nervous few days with the Saudi transfer window still open meaning further moves for their talisman, Mohamed Salah, remain a possibility.

Speculation has been rife over recent weeks that the 31-year-old is open to a move to Al-Ittihad and reports have suggested that Liverpool turned down a £150million offer for him from the Saudi club.

The transfer window for Premier League clubs shut on Friday, but the Saudi window stays open until Thursday, giving them time to add further reinforcements to their squad.

Mohamed Salah Is ‘Untouchable’

Speaking on the DeBrief podcast (via Caught Offside), Fabrizio Romano explained that even if Al-Ittihad return with a fresh offer, Liverpool remain determined to keep hold of Salah who is described as ‘untouchable’.

“Liverpool are very, very relaxed about that situation. I think Saudi will come back because this is something normal for them. Come back in terms of approaching Liverpool, approaching the player’s camp but I think it’s not going to be something concrete or something advanced in any case because Liverpool, honestly, have always been clear. Whenever we had all these rumours, Liverpool have always sent the same message: The player is untouchable. Mo Salah is going no where.

“I think selling Salah now would be completely crazy for Liverpool. They are now finding the right ideas on the pitch with the new players, with their new midfield that they built in the summer so to lose a player like Mo Salah would be a shock for the squad so for the moment Liverpool are confirming they have no intention to let Mo Salah go.”

Saudi Clubs To Return For Salah In 2024?

Whilst the transfer guru believes that the Anfield hierarchy will not sell the Egyptian over the next few days, he does think Saudi clubs will return next summer when they will have a better chance of doing business.

“My expectation is probably for Saudi sides to return in 2024. In that moment I think that it’s going to be really dangerous because they can return have more time to convince the club and there is even more time for Liverpool to replace Mo Salah – something that was really impossible in the final days of the transfer window; to find a player at the level of Mo Salah, and so I think now it’s very unlikely, almost impossible, but in 2024, it’s something to keep an eye on because from Saudi are really in love with the opportunity to bring Mo Salah there.”

Salah has started the season in excellent form, contributing a goal or assist in all four games so far which has helped Jurgen Klopp’s team take 10 points out of a possible 12.

Losing him before the Saudi window closes seems unthinkable but Reds fans will not rest until Friday when they hope to be safe in the knowledge they have kept their man until the start of January at the very least.
