Virgil Van Dijk has been charged with a breach of FA rules due to the aftermath of his red card against Newcastle United.

The Dutch international was sent off against Newcastle in the 27th minute when he made contact with Alexander Isak who had been played through by Anthony Gordon.

Van Dijk did not leave the field quietly giving John Brooks a piece of his mind whilst also speaking to the fourth official as he left the pitch as he did not think it was a red card.

Due to this he has got himself into trouble with the FA as they have charged him under the breach of FA Rule E3.1.

What does this mean for Van Dijk?

It has been alleged that the defender acted in an improper manner and or used abusive and or insulting words towards a match official.

Due to this there is the possibility that Van Dijk now has his suspension increased to more than just one game meaning he will still be unavailable for Jurgen Klopp after the international break.

Whether it be just another game or two remains to be seen as Van Dijk as until Friday 1st September to provide a response to the charge.

As well as missing the Aston Villa game the Liverpool captain could miss the Wolves tripe and the West Ham game at home.

With Ibrahima Konate injured Klopp will have to rely Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah with the latter making his Premier League debut in the Newcastle victory.
