Virgil van Dijk asserts his commitment to Liverpool as the Reds’ captain embraces the arrival of fellow Dutchman Arne Slot.

Slot is set to succeed Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager, with the transition expected to take place this Saturday following his move from Feyenoord.

The incoming Liverpool boss departs Feyenoord after three highly successful seasons, notably securing the league title in 2023.

Slot will be greeted by three compatriots on Merseyside, with Van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch eager to work under their new manager.

Speaking at the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 training camp on Monday, Van Dijk addressed reporters: “I still have a year left on my contract.

“I am club captain and I have made it clear I am there for the new coach and enthusiastic over the next season.

“Obviously, there will be a lot of changes but I am confident we will make a big success of it.

“I congratulated [Slot] of course and I’m really pleased for him and his family. We spoke about the team and the future but now my focus is fully on the national team.”

Slot’s tenure concluded with an impressive run of six consecutive league victories, and Feyenoord remained unbeaten in their final 20 Eredivisie matches under his guidance, with their last defeat occurring against PSV on December 3rd.

The 45-year-old managed exactly 150 games at Feyenoord across all competitions, securing victory in 98 of those matches.

Additionally, Slot led Feyenoord to KNVB Cup glory in April, overseeing a 1-0 triumph over NEC Nijmegen in the final of that competition.

Gravenberch believes that Feyenoord’s success under Slot played a significant role in earning him the move to Liverpool.

“I think he can be good for my career, he’s a coach who wants to play good football,” added the former Bayern Munich midfielder.
