The 30-year-old is currently undergoing his medical ahead of finalising a transfer worth £15m. Endo, who will become the Reds’ third summer signing will put pen to paper on a long-term contract.

If everything goes through successfully, the Japan skipper will be registered in time to form part of Klopp’s squad for the league game against Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday.

Premier League rules state that any signing must be completed by 12pm on Friday in order for him to take part in this weekend’s game.

Endo featured in 33 Bundesliga games last season and made nine goal contributions as Stuttgart narrowly avoided relegation by winning a play-off against Hamburg.

He joined Stuttgart initially on a season-long loan in 2019 before completing a permanent deal. The Japanese played in Stuttgart’s German Cup win against TSG Balingen last Saturday and was on the scoresheet in their 4-0 win.

Liverpool are desperate to sign a defensive midfielder following the exits of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and James Milner this summer, while fellow midfielders Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have also left the club.
