Mason Mount was a name not many would have guessed could possibly be Manchester United’s main summer transfer target 6 months ago, but that was the reality. Erik ten Hag once said he’ll fight for his ideas, and he fought to bring Mason Mount to United.

The Dutch manager has been a long time fan of Mount since he went on loan to Vitesse in the Dutch league in 2018. Ten Hag even tried to land Mount that summer on loan, but the deal never happened in the end.

Mount is now a United player, and the United manager spoke about how hard the club worked to get the deal done today.

Ten Hag Speaks On Mason Mount Deal:

Speaking ahead of the opening pre-season friendly against Leeds United, Ten Hag had this to say on the Mount deal.

“We worked so hard to get this deal done. There were so many clubs trying to sign him and we succeeded. So I am really happy with that.”

And he is not lying. Mason Mount had interest from Liverpool and Arsenal, and even Manchester City at one stage. Liverpool even offered the player a contract, but he always had his heart set on United. His conversation with Erik ten Hag made his mind up straight away.

Erik ten Hag has a good track record with signings for United so far and he believes Mount will be important to United’s success. The former Chelsea mans offers a new dynamic in the midfield, and the ability to press that much more efficiently.

Mount performed well in his debut for United today, and earned a glowing compliment from Ten Hag after the game.

“Great, first half, we expected it. He had so much courage. You can take so much joy from him.”

A good start for Mason Mount, and a sign of things to come from Manchester United.
