Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has a clause in his contract that would allow him to return to his former club. The clause is there in case Liverpool choose to hire Alonso to succeed Jurgen Klopp, should he decide to leave in the coming years.
Alonso is playing exciting football at Leverkusen, and fits the bill to be Liverpool’s next manager. His attacking principles would light up the Anfield crowd, and with a connection already built it feels like a match made in heaven.
The clause does however also apply for another of his former clubs.
SPORTBILD have reported this, stating Alonso’s clause means he can leave for either Liverpool or Real Madrid.
At this current time, Real Madrid seems a lot more likely than Liverpool. The Red’s are content with Jurgen Klopp, and Madrid are open to new alternatives with Carlo Ancelotti set to leave soon. Alonso is a name they have looked at.
Jurgen Klopp is not set to leave Liverpool any time soon. Alonso may be someone the Red’s turn to five or ten years from now, but at present Madrid is likely to be his destination.
